Insecurity: State Police More Necessary Than Ever – Akeredolu


Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has called for the establishment of State Police to help the war against insecurity.

Akeredolu stated this on Sunday at the state Christian service in commemoration of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at St. Benedict Military Catholic Church, Owena Cantonment of the Nigerian Army, Ondo Road, Akure.

According to the governor, the insecurity rocking the nation has made the need for state police necessary.

Akeredolu stated that the best way to tackle the country security challenge was forthe creation of a multi-level policing system.

He stated that the Nigerian military needs modern equipment to help in their fight against insurgents and other criminalities in the country.

“Better ammunition and welfare of the security agencies must continue to be at the forefront, to better encourage and support the officers in their fight against criminalities,” Akeredolu said.

The Ondo governor commended the support and commitment of the military in securing the state and confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements who are troubling the peace of the state

Akeredolu said the Nigerian military counter-terrorism efforts aimed at ridding the country and the state of criminal elements was laudable.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, on Saturday, eliminated no fewer than 50 bandits at Kuriya village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The development was confirmed in a statement released by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche.

Enenche while speaking on the mission, noted that the troops with support from Air Component, attacked bandits at Kuriya village leading to their death while 4 soldiers sustained injuries with 272 livestock recovered.

It was further stated that troops deployed at Dunya village of Danmusa LGA of Katsina State while on routine patrol also recovered 62 livestock from bandits who fled into the bush on sighting troops.

He noted that troops will continue aggressive patrols until normalcy is restored to all troubled zones of the country.
