How to treat food poisoning.
Food poisoning is an illness caused by consuming contaminated food or water. Food poisoning is caused by eating poisonous substances which could cause disturbances to the organism. It could also be caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or other germs.
You cannot see, taste or smell these germs, but they have a powerful effect on man. Some foods are easily infected by germs. Examples are: meat, milk, vegetables, fruits, peas and nuts. Food can become infected with germs when water that is used to wash food become infected with animal waste, men can infect food if they don’t wash their hands properly after using utensils.
Symptoms of food poisoning include: vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, nausea, headache, fever, etc.
To prevent food poisoning
1. Wash your hands with warm water and soap after using the toilet before touching food.
2. Clean all cooking utensils in warm water, wash fruits and vegetables under running water and cook all food very well.
3. If you have food poisoning, you have to sleep and drink enough water so as to replace the fluids you might have lost through diarrhea or vomiting.
4. Know when to seek help: an attack of food poisoning is usually over within a day or two. Seek medical help if your symptoms persist for more than 48 hours or if you have a high fever, abdominal cramps that increase in severity or bloody diarrhea.
